Today’s young people face many challenges to their health and well-being. This is particularly true in Michigan, which has been in a long and severe economic downturn. Distressed communities experience high rates of violence, incarceration, obesity and sexually transmitted infections. All of these issues have profound effects on children and young adults.
Here at the PRC/MI, we seek to develop models of practice that build capacity and create community change. Many of our projects build upon existing community based programs that seek to enhance and promote safe and healthy futures for Michigan’s youth.
Our new blog will feature articles about many of our projects, as well as more in-depth pieces relating to our health disparities, youth development, community-academic partnerships, training, and public health research areas of interest to our faculty, staff and partners.
We want to hear from you! Check back regularly and comment on articles that are posted, and connect with us on Facebook and Twitter. We also welcome guest bloggers and community contributors.
